- new technologies and training for subsistence lifestyles
- distributed renewable energy generation
- affordable, eco-friendly housing design & construction
HEL works closely with local land owners and receives advice and support from Callaghan Innovation, Activate Tairāwhiti, NZ Trade & Enterprise, Ministry for Primary Industries, Ākina Foundation, Eastland Community Trust and the JR McKenzie Trust, and is working on research and development projects with a number of New Zealand and overseas companies along with scientists from the Cawthron Institute, University of Auckland, University of Waikato, Massey University, University of Canterbury and Victoria University of Wellington.
