Hikurangi Enterprises is supporting post-graduate science students in 2017-18.
Kānuka Chemical Genetics: In partnership with the School of Biological Science at Victoria University of Wellington, Hikurangi Enterprises will support a Masters student to undertake a two year programme of work investigating the bioactive characteristics, cell processes and actions in kānuka extracts. The student will analyse cell-based genetic networks using high-content, high throughput live-cell phenotype screening, as well as high-throughput genetic interaction analysis, microarray analysis and chemical genetics. Scholarship: $20,000
Mycology: In partnership with the School of Biological Science at the University of Auckland, Hikurangi Enterprises may be looking for an Honours or Masters student to undertake a one year programme of work investigating the bioactive characteristics and action of extracts of an indigenous fungi. This project is yet to be finalised but we are taking expressions of interest. Scholarship: $5,000 + lab expenses
Priority will be given to Māori students who have completed their biology and/or chemistry degree with high grades (and may be waiting on final grades), who have connections to the East Coast and a willingness to work closely with Hikurangi Enterprises and communities in the Waiapu catchment.

- a cover letter including the applicant’s experience, interest in the kaupapa and motivation for applying.

The fine print: The holding of a Hikurangi Scholarship is conditional upon the scholarship recipient gaining enrolment as a Master’s (by thesis) student in the relevant School of Biological Science. Hikurangi Enterprises reserves the right not to grant any scholarship. Payments will be subject to the completion of mutually agreed milestones. Scholarship applicants and recipients are entitled to apply for other scholarships, grants and support. Scholarship applicants will negotiate their research proposal and supervision arrangements with the respective faculty staff and Hikurangi Enterprises.
